The future of Diablo 4 might include a surprising new platform: the Nintendo Switch 2. While not yet confirmed, executive producer Rod Fergusson recently hinted at the possibility during a conversation with Gamertag Radio. According to Fergusson, there’s an “opportunity” for Blizzard to bring the dark fantasy action-RPG to Nintendo’s upcoming console Diablo 4 Items.
The Switch 2 is expected to support a wide range of ports, including graphically intense titles. With Diablo 4 boasting the most visually complex engine in the series to date, it’s reassuring to hear the development team is at least open to the idea of optimizing it for the next-gen handheld.
Given the success of Diablo 3 and Diablo 2: Resurrection on the original Switch, fans have good reason to hope. Those games will remain available via backward compatibility, further suggesting that Blizzard and Nintendo already have a strong working relationship.
Ultimately, whether Diablo 4 lands on Switch 2 depends on how the platform handles live service infrastructure. Fergusson admitted this is a key challenge, but one the team may be willing to take on buy Diablo 4 Items.
