Forbidden Rites is not only about farming Ritual rewards and pushing endgame content. The 0.5.5 event also gives players four exclusive cosmetics and a permanent Hideout Totem that records challenge progress. Since these rewards are tied to the limited-time event, it is worth planning your challenge route instead of leaving everything until the end.

Which Cosmetics Should You Get First?

The first major milestone comes at 2 completed challenges, unlocking the Locust Footprints Effect. This is the easiest cosmetic target and should be your first priority if you mainly want something exclusive without committing to a full completion run.

At 4 challenges, you unlock the Locust Swarm Rare Finisher Effect. For players who enjoy visual effects during combat, this is probably the most noticeable cosmetic because it appears when enemies are finished.

The Wildwood Guardian Pet arrives at 6 challenges. This is arguably the best general-purpose reward if you care about having a cosmetic that stays visible while playing rather than something tied to movement or level-up animations.

Finally, completing all 8 challenges unlocks the Wildwood Affliction Level-up Effect. It is the hardest reward to obtain, but completionists should naturally treat it as the final target.

In short, the priority is simple: 2 challenges for a quick reward, 4 for a combat effect, 6 for the pet, and 8 for full completion.

The Hideout Totem Is Worth Completing

The interesting part of the event is the Forbidden Rites Totem. Starting with your first completed challenge, you receive pieces for the hideout decoration. As you complete more challenges, the totem grows and permanently displays how much of the event you finished.

This means the statue is not really a single reward with one unlock point. It is a progression trophy.

If you only want a basic souvenir, a few challenges are enough. If you want the complete version, however, you should keep working toward all eight rather than stopping after unlocking your favorite cosmetic.

Clear Challenges While You Level

The easiest way to avoid a huge cleanup session is to combine challenges with normal progression.

Ritual encounters appear throughout the campaign, so do not skip them when they are directly on your route. Several challenge objectives can also be progressed while leveling, meaning you should not think of every challenge as a separate farming activity.

When you enter a zone, quickly check whether it contains a relevant Ritual or target. If it does, complete it before moving forward. This costs much less time than returning to old campaign areas later.

Use Endgame Content for the Remaining Challenges

Once the campaign is finished, switch your attention to objectives that require repetition or higher-level content.

Ritual farming is especially useful because it can generate useful rewards while progressing event objectives. If you are already farming for POE2 Currency, keep an eye on your challenge panel and choose maps that help advance unfinished objectives at the same time.

The same principle applies to Trial of Chaos, Atlas progression, and higher-level boss content. Instead of asking, “What challenge should I farm now?”, ask, “Which activity can complete two things at once?”

Save Your Best Cosmetics for the End

There is no need to rush directly toward the final cosmetic. Unlock the 2-, 4-, and 6-challenge rewards naturally while building your character, then decide whether the final push is worth it.

If you are already investing heavily into your character and endgame progression, the remaining challenges can usually be folded into that routine. Spending POE 2 Exalted Orbs or other valuable resources purely to force a cosmetic objective is rarely efficient.

The Best Completion Strategy

The most efficient approach is simple: take the easy challenges while leveling, use Rituals to stack progress, then clean up the endgame objectives with a properly geared character.

Do not treat the four cosmetics and the Totem as five separate grinds. They are all connected to the same eight-challenge progression.

Reach 2 challenges for the first cosmetic, 4 for the finisher, 6 for the pet, and 8 for the final level-up effect. Meanwhile, every completed challenge adds another piece to your Forbidden Rites Totem.

That way, you are not farming cosmetics instead of playing the game. You are letting your normal progression build the rewards for you.
